Lone Star Flight Museum:
The Lone Star Flight Museum, began as a private aircraft collection in June 1985. The acquisition of more aircraft quickly led to a search for a new home. In 1990, construction of a 50,000 sq. ft. Phase I facility began at Galveston's Scholes Field. Continued rapid growth required construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. Phase II hangar in 1991. Along with the aircraft collection, the LSFM began to acquire and display aviation memorabilia and artifacts, develop educational programs, and recruit volunteers through our Membership Program implemented in July 1991. The Haak Vineyards & Winery:
Raymond and Gladys Haak were born and raised in South Texas. Raymond began growing grapes in 1969 as a hobby. He experimented with numerous grape varietals to determine which varieties would survive the climatic conditions along the Gulf Coast of Texas. After more than 25 years, Raymond & Gladys decided to turn their wine & grape growing passion into a commercial operation. They planted 3 acres of winegrapes and a few years later designed and built a modern, Mediterranean style facility which reflects the winery’s mission statement of offering “A Taste of the Old World in Galveston County ”. The winery consists of over 11,000 square feet, including an 1800 sq. ft. cellar, which is used for storing & aging wines in Oak Barrels. The Rail Road Museum:
The Rail Road Museum is open seven days a week from March to December - from 10:00 a.m. and the ticket booth closes at 4:00 p.m. During January and February we will be closed Monday. The Museum is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and during the local Mardi Gras weekend.
